Welcome to a new excerpt of Rainbow Catcher for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday.
Now let's go back to our story.
Summary of previous episodes: Clarissa is coughing and wanted to watch Everett Cooper on TV but Jason refused, she is due to get her rainbow the next day but she seems scared, to make her feel better Jason leave the TV on. Clarissa tried to explain about rainbows, she is a big fan of Everett Cooper but Jason is not too sure about it. Clarissa complained about her dialophone but Jason needs to go to work. Before completely leaving he is thinking about getting her her rainbow. We flashed back to the meeting Jason had with a rainbow seller at the black market. Jason left Clarissa's room to go to work. Jason was talking to his boss about the rainbow coming the next day. Jason prepared the money for the rainbow in a sport bag and went to the hospital. The rainbow seller arrived for the delivery.
“You have to go out so that I check the sound,” Clarissa said examining the screen carefully.
Jason walked out and closed the door behind him.
“How is it?” he said in the dialophone.
“Hum, speak more.”
“I don’t need to speak more, I don’t know what to say. Either it's good or it's not,” he said before getting back inside.

ReplyDeleteI don't know how this snippet would read in context, but standing by itself it's rather humorous. I was reminded about some old commercials for a cellphone carrier, where the man goes to various parts of the country and says "Can you hear me now?"

ReplyDeleteHe seems a little terse. I think he needs to have more patience with her, although she doesn't seem to mind his attitude.

ReplyDeleteThis is my first visit to your blog, so I am not sure of the back story. Not sure why she wants a rainbow, and what she will do with it when she gets it. However, I'm sure I will pick up the story in a week or two. I will come back and read again.

Such a guy, black and white, good or not good....but a nice snippet!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely he should hum and maybe sing something! One short line isn't enough to tell if it's working well, imho. At least, that's what I'd tell my brother in order to get him to do something silly. ;-)

ReplyDeleteFun snippet. Love the interaction between the two of them. I think he's getting a little tired of her problems with the dialophone -- user/operator error gets annoying when you have to correct it too many times.
