Thursday Taster 7: Rainbow Catcher

Hello and Welcome to Thursday Taster again. Talented writers from all over the blogosphere gather together to give readers tasty parts of their work in progress, you can find the list here

As I'm currently working on the edits of Rainbow Catcher, that's the project I will be presenting until it is ready. Thank you for all the comments on last week's taster, I really appreciate. As it's under editing, if you see anything funny, hit me on the head in the comments. Rainbow Catcher has been submitted to Pitch Wars! Now I'm still waiting for a sign of my mentors, I think if they were really interested they would already have required a full draft, so I guess I will have to go with plan B for this book. Not that it changes much, plan B being the former plan A, haha. No regrets, but I can still wait for the results on September 3rd.
Today, Jason is a bit stressed and not in the mood to play games. I jumped a bit ahead.

Someone knocked loudly at the door, taking Clarissa out of her reverie. The fat man pushed the door open and entered before being invited to do so. He was as sweating as when Jason had met him the first time and large stains could be seen around the armpits of his dark green suit. He didn’t take few steps that Clarissa already hid under the blanket. She was not easily scared, but this man was looking pretty nasty to her.
You have the money?” he asked Jason putting the rainbow cold case he was carrying on the floor.
You are early,” Jason said.
I had a hole in my schedule, you have the money?” he said again, wiping his sweaty forehead with his red tie. Once again he looked as if he had been running ten miles under both suns before arriving.
It’s on the table,” Jason said with a gesture of the hand, inviting the fat man to look at it.
The fat man sat at the table and opened the bag smiling, he started to count.
Jason took the rainbow cold box.
This is brand new,” he said checking the temperature.
Of course,” the fat man said, looking at him as if he was a disturbing fly.
Jason reached for the handle.
Don’t open it,” the fat man yelled in a voice way too loud inside a sick child room.
Jason looked at him suspiciously, the quality of the cold case almost made him forget who he was dealing with, he wondered what the man wanted to hide and was more than ever eager to open the case.
The fat man composed himself.
It’s liquid Helium in there, it would melt at air contact, you don’t want to damage the rainbow, or do you?” he said with a caressing voice.
Jason stood back up and carried the case to the bed. Clarissa was still hiding looking at him with only her eyes visible from under the blanket.
I’ll get doctor Marshall,” Jason said.
As you want the fat man answered with a move of his hand mimicking Jason earlier.
Don’t go,” Clarissa muttered with a tiny voice catching his hand.
It will be fine,” Jason said.
He walked out of the room.
Just stay here, I’ll be right back,” he said to the fat man.
I don’t have all day,” the fat man answered, putting the last notes back in the bag.
Clarissa was now staring at him with her deep dark blue eyes, making him feel uncomfortable.
Just wait,” Jason said, closing the door behind him. He stopped at the nurses’ desk at the end of the corridor and asked for doctor Marshall.
