My boyfriend got me into started the cinema section of the blog again. I decided to try to have one movie review every Thursday. I won't be talking about new movies too much except if I go to the cinema. It will be mainly about Asian movies and as I'm currently learning Japanese, about Japanese movies. It won't be in the same format as the old post. It's something totally new, more about my feelings about the movies than about a clear rating.
Anyway, let's get to our first movie.
嫌われ松子の一生 or in English, Memories of Matsuko.
Storie: Sho's father comes to find him after two years to ask him to clean the room of his aunt. According to his father, his aunt Matsuko was assassinated in the park near the river near her room. That's enough to intrigue Sho especially when his father adds: "Her life was meaningless."
Matsuko didn't have contact with her family for more than 30 years. Slowly, Sho is going to go through her belongings and meet her acquaintance and discover if her life was really that meaningless. It seemed that everywhere she went, someone was here to bring her trouble.
My feelings: This is an amazing movie. It manages to show the development of a human being, Matsuko, in a rather hostile environment, generally called "life". It describes how the people in our life are able to create our reality and to try to bend us in the shape they intend for us, either parents, lovers, boss and co-workers, friends. It is difficult to really realise who has our best interest in mind and who is staying near us only to try to get the best of us. Matsuko was really doing her best all along. I really enjoyed watching this movie.
