魔女の宅急便 (Kiki's Delivery Service ) is a anime by Hayao Miyasaki (1989) from a children's book by Eiko Kadono.

At 13 year old, Kiki left her home for the city where she must do her training as a witch.
With her little cat Gigi, with who she can talk, she soon open a delivery service from a bakery.
She deliver nicely everything all right until she get sick and lot her powers...

魔女の宅急便 is a great anime. As lots of Miyasaki it deals with flying as Kiki is flying on her broomstick.
Contrarily to the usual bad reputation of witches Kiki is a very nice girl who like to help people.

This anime was directed by Hiroshi Ohno who is also worked on "人狼, Jin-Roh, The Wolf Brigade". The background elements and landscape are from Europe (Stockholm, Ireland, Paris) and Australia as the screenplay is based in a fictive country is Northern Europe.
