Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 247

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

But this time, he let me do as I pleased and I told Sorina’s mother exactly where to go and what to do. There was not much to be done, just stay with the sheeps until the end of the night when I was to come pick them up one way or another. Sorina liked the idea but she was afraid for her father. I was almost sure that the only thing which had kept him alive the night before was that he was the inn keeper and that the British vampires needed something else from him. They might be taking him a bit roughly but he was safe. I pleaded near my father, asked him to delay the hunting party. We didn’t need to go for the kill when there was so much going on in the village but he even thought he understood and tried, it was not in his power to go against my uncle’s desire. For the second night, villagers were slaughtered and body left on the ground. When we went back to the castle, it was almost day time but I had to go for Sorina. I was the only one seeing what they had done, the smell of blood was strong, they villagers were crying their dead. There was nothing I could do but watch with horror. I felt the pain of the villagers ever more strongly. When I was going for the hunt and killing what I did tonight, I had always felt the hatred of the human around me. The one hunted, the one watching but it was nothing in comparison with the helplessness of the people in the village. It wasn’t one man killed because he missed his chance for survival, it was people dead, door shouted open and windows broken until the man were to come out, the British weren’t hunting, they were destroying the entire house until the inhabitants were forced out to be killed. It was barbaric. They are retired for the night and I lead Sorina and her mother through the less touched part of the village. Sorina was clinging at my arm, I knew that she was afraid. I had my other hand on the handle of my sword. There was nothing I could do alone to stop the vampires if they were to attack us and I knew it but there was nothing to stop be trying. This was the first time I had met Dylan. He was the only one out, as if he had decided to fight with the sun, to see which one of them was the strongest. His eyes were red, glittering with all the blood he had drunk during the night, he still had some leaking out of his shin and was sitting on stairs near the center of the village. I had only few more street to take to have Sorina save at home for the day time and I was not going to let him stop him. He looked straight at me with a faint smile as if he was in pain but soon recovered from his lethargic state and jumped on his feet.

Thursday Fiction 241: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay
Let's start right where we left off last week.

"This is my ship, ruled by all people onboard and placed under their care to my authority. The relationship between this ship and the confederation is none of your business any longer."
They took him away.
"This was intense and dangerous," Fin whispered to me.
"Just as I like it," I answered. "Fanny, wait."
Fin's sister turned around. I had thought she might say something to me about the vote but apparently our relationship in this world was not what it was in my universe. Even though we were supposed to be close. I wondered what sort of life Michelle had went she was just a student before being send to rule this ship.
"Yes," Fanny said.
She has a playfulness in her eyes. Something that said she wanted to congratulate me but didn't know if she should. I was captain, I had to hold my rang but I really wanted to shred every boundary apart.
"I need an new ambassador," I said.
"A what?"
Was it her or was it my choice of vocabulary? I didn't know but I sure needed to explain.
"I need someone to take care of the communication between the ship and the confederation so that we don't get into trouble when we get back," I said.
"And what does this have to do with me?"
"You're getting the job," I said. "Upgrate."
I tried to be cheerful but the look on her face was a mixture between "has she gone nuts?" and "I would have felt better if I wasn't struggling under water with a three ton rock on my chest to keep me down."

Wednesday Snippet 243: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

Isakael turned around to see other angel he had been trying to avoid.
“Are you following me?”
“I'm convinced that you know something that I don't” the angel answered putting his hand to the wall to black Isakael's way.
“I don't know anything,” Isakael answered.
“What about wing suddenly changing colors?” the other asked with a very low voice.
“Especially that,” Isakael said trying not to grab his wings to look at their color right now, he was feeling so unconfident but couldn't allow the other one to see it. Only people at home were supposed to know about his wings problem.
“Especially that, well I advice you, no matter how many demon friends you have, don't set a foot in the demon world right now, the one who didn't come back all had wings changing color,” the other said.
Isakael looked at him is disbelieve, his curiosity was suddenly stronger than his fear of being discovered.
“How do you know that?”
“I knew some of them, you see my wings aren't as white at they used to be, just at some point it becomes permanent and those guys had nowhere else to go,” the angel said.
“And why are you saying that to me? I could directly gave you to Ezechiel right here and now,” Isakael answered.
“Because we can recognise each other, we are not like the rest of them, our powers are not limited to the healing power of angels, you can't tell on me because you are the same, your wings are not always as white as they used to be.”

Tuesday Travel 32: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

Brownie took a deep breathe, that's the conversation she was dreading, maybe she should have written a letter to her sisters instead of bringing Grenadine up here but it was too late now.
“As a matter of fact, yes,” Brownie said.
All she had to do was to make sure that she wasn't giving any detail.
“Some holidays with Sahel?”
“Quite the opposite. I told him I was going but I have to go without telling me.”
“What?”
“We broke up, well, I broke up with him, it probably didn't register for him yet, I have issues, we both have issues and I need to get away to try and fix them,” Brownie said.
Before she realized it, Grenadine was already around giving her a hug.
“I thought you two could go through anything,” she said.
“I know, me too,” Brownie answered.
“If you asked me though, I'm not sure I liked the way he talked to you, I mean actually, I told Sedana that if he ever talked to me that way I'll make him eat his wand.”
Brownie laughed, “I would love to see that.”
“I might sketch it for you as a welcome back present. Cause you'll be back, right?”
“Yes, I'll definitely be back, I can't leave you guys alone for too long,” Brownie said. “You want to help me pack? I need to fit my clothes and that box.”
She pointed at the box on the desk.
“What's in there?” Grenadine said grabbing the box and pulling on one of the string keeping it open.
Brownie stopped her.
“No idea, it's from Dylan, I'm not supposed to open it until I'm bored on the way or something,” Brownie said.
“From Dylan and you're bringing it with you? It could be a dead mouse or a pack of blood for all I know,” Grenadine said looking at the box suspiciously and letting Brownie take it from her hand.
“It doesn't smell like a dead anything and Dylan knows I don't drink blood, he is not that bad, at least not in serious situation,” Brownie said. She put the box at the bottom of her bag and it suddenly seemed a lot smaller than it first appeared to be.
“Wait a minute,” she pulled the box out again and place it near the bag, it should have taken up more than a half of it. But when she placed it in again, it seemed to shrink and flatten inside the bag.
“That's weird, it's like a magic box or something,” Grenadine said. “I could totally use one for my brushes, it might also help transporting a canvas when I want to paint outdoor. Do you think he has another one?”
“I don't think so,” Brownie said, even more curious now to see what was in the box. “And a canvas wouldn't fit anyway.”
“I'll still ask him.” Grenadine said. “So what clothes are you bringing.”
