Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 185

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet?Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left of last week

Nicolas had been gathering papers and books for me to carry away with me. He was copying the last undeshifered part of the journals when I arrived to say goodbye and take my luggage.
Would you give me a hand?” he asked not bothering to look at me. It was very strange for me to see him work in a hurry, he was always so cautious about not making mistakes when copying things that it was probably giving him nightmare. I could see the letters coming back to haunt him every time he wouldn’t understand a word and the thought made me chuckle. I sat on the other side of his desk and took a feather already prepare and watered the drying ink before copying the page. Copying German was a fastidious task for me especially when I didn’t understand most of what was written. Nicolas looked at the work accomplished with a smile and gave me a handshake. The contact felt some kind of odd to me. It was like if Nicolas was telling me that he was keeping a part of me here and I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not. I packed my luggage and the box of books Nicolas was offering me in the carriage. My horses were eating in the street and the passerby admiring the strange attelage. I wanted to go as soon as possible but Perenelle insisted for a last dinner. She had already packed supplies of food for a week in the carriage and I knew the girl could use balance meals before recovering. I wasn’t sure if I was going to let her fully recover or if I was to keep her in the forever lethargic state of people short in blood. I thought that this would depend on her behavior but she had already demonstrated a will to escape.
I was ready to take my leave when Nicolas held me by the elbow and guided me to his study.
I think it is time for me to tell you everything about the philosopher stone,” he said.
I thought that I knew enough to know that I didn’t want to know more struck me. I hating this thing. It had excited me at first by giving me back my memory but I hate what the prolonged use of it had done to Perenelle and especially to Nicolas. What was so good in prolonging your life if you became a totally different person?

Thursday Fiction 179: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

"Now!" I said.
I couldn't bear with people defying my authority. Seriously, was it because I was young? What is because I was a woman? Was it because I sometimes didn't move like the real captain version of me? I had no idea but I was going to do some serious clean up on this ship.
"And you better make sure to follow my orders to the letter if you don't want to be replaced as soon as we reach Antares."
They took Tucker away.
"Captain, that wasn't a wise move," Clara said.
She looked scared. I was scared too. It could have seemed that I was here because I was the one with nothing to lose so I could take the rash decisions but that was not true. This universe was the only one with another person who could do what I could do and travel to other universe. I couldn't risk talking to my dad about those things. I had seen it the last time. He could go back to being just my dad anytime instead of being the traveling occupant to his body. The thing was. If they killed Michelle in this universe, I would never learn anything about myself because I would never be able to come back.
"We have been careful too long and this is the result," I said showing off the room.
"You don't think..."
"It was sabotage and I'll prove it," I said looking around.

Wednesday Snippet 182: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

They landed in a deserted parking lot. There weren't so many cars in the Demon World but demons liked huge extended spaces. It was easier to fight and easier to land there too. Torsti looked around. The place still seemed asleep, not everybody had to get up with the sun.
“Better get to a motel or something, we need a shower if we don't want to scare everyone away,” Odeon said.
Torsti hid a smile happy to see his brother finally take some interest in his own life.
“Over there, it doesn't look too good but it would have to do,” he said.
The building seemed to be half falling apart, the name of the motel was missing two letters and only one of the remaining was still glowing. The wooden curtains at the windows had been torn apart.
“It's not a good neighborhood, I'm almost glad Lonan is not here to see that,” Odeon said.
Torsti felt like his little brother was probably seeing a lot worse but refrained from making Odeon notice it.
“In the state we are at, I bet nobody is going to want to come too close,” he said swinging his hammer to leave it rest on his left shoulder.
Their clothes were stained in blood from the fights and the walk in the forest didn't help with the dirt stains either. They smelled humid like homeless beggar.
Torsti pushed the door of the motel, a little demon female in out of fashion simple flowery dress was sitting at the counter with her back to the door, looking at a television with doubtful color showing humans. Torsti paused a moment to look at the image box fascinated while the woman turned her head to look at him. She grabbed her wing to make she that it wouldn't fly in the way.
“What do you want?” she said.
“One bedroom with shower and some breakfast,” Odeon answered pushing his brother.

Let's start right where we left off.

She had read how demons erased memories and tortured their preys until they lost everything they ever had. The worst punishment possible for a demon: becoming human. A human with the appearance of a demon who didn’t remember who he was.

But this book listed the ingredients necessary, they explained step by step how to recall a lost soul demonic or not. Brownie read it three times before believing it. She would be able to bring back Yue's soul, she was sure of it now; she knew it was too late for his memory but at least the thing that made her fall in love with him would be safe. She took a sheet of paper and a pencil and wrote down her shopping list with a trembling hand.
It was too late to go tonight but she would go first thing tomorrow morning.
