WeWriWar 231: Demon Soul

Welcome to a new excerpt for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday.
When Demon Soul first came out, it wasn't really in it's best form.
It is the first book of my Demon Series and the First book of The House at The Crossing cluster. I have written a lot of the other books in the series, I have about 6 so far, but I haven't gone to publishing them mostly because I wasn't happy with the quality of Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy. So I wanted to have something that look better and that I could be proud of  before getting the other books out.
I decided to redo Demon Soul with a brand new edit and a brand new cover.
The book is almost ready and the professional cover should arrive soon so I though I could start here with a few snippet until the cover reveal and the new publishing.

Enjoy!

Let's start right were we left off last week

However, she never managed to have enough powers to bring him back to her. Without his soul, the demon she had loved had died inside his own body. She never saw his soul again, dancing in his eyes. She couldn't bear to see him like that and he didn't love her anymore. He didn't remember their time together, the joy they had once felt. He came to her just by habit.

So this moment now, was meant to happen. Since that night, she always knew he would leave. She pushed it away as much as she could but now; he was walking away, leaving her with an empty heart.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 147

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet?Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left of last week

“Nice to meet you”, I said pulling away before he grabbed me. He was like my bear could have been his hands were like claws and I didn’t want to be grabbed by one of them. With the blood he had drunk tonight, he could have just broken any of my bones just by closing his fist on them. He was a formidable adversary. I had the feeling that this was going to be a lot of fun.
He came toward me. I had never imagine how mad he was. I was really pissed, I couldn’t take Sorina out of my mind, I wanted to go back now and get her but I knew that in my current state I would just make her in danger more than she already was and he knew it.
“I thought you meant nice to kill you”, he said porting his first attack to my head, I lowered myself and the sword passed above me, and made it come back a bit lower and I had to lower myself even more to avoid being hit. When he went at it the same time, I jumped and blocked the fourth blow while going down, I almost lost balance while landing as he pushed me toward the wall. He wasn’t using his arm only, he was putting the weight of his entire body into his blade and I could tell that he was really heavy. I turned on myself before hitting the wall, his blade went through, I tried to attack his side while he was taking it out but he was faster and blocked the attack then attacked again. Once on the right, once on the left, our sword stayed against each other, he tried to come closer but I jumped backward. I didn’t have time to find myself back that he was already on me. He liked it blade against blade and he was trying to grab me with his other hand. I lowered myself once again, pulled up my short blade and pushed up toward his chest, digging the blade deeply. He took few steps back, and I took the opportunity to regain my composure, I knew the knife had been deep in a very painful area but he just took it out from behind his ribs and throw it away.
“You might think you fight well because you managed to get me but there is no way in hell I’ll ever lose to a traitor like you”, he said.

Thursday Fiction 141: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventure of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

Amy looked at him as if she too was waiting for the answer.
"Mum and dad are going to blame me for not talking her out of it when she fail even the classes they personally discussed with her to make it easy for her before we came here," Alex said.
"And?" I asked.
"And it's going to be my fault when she fails again and I don't want to be blame for it again," Alex said.
I could see that Amy was something between unbelievable and happy. Like he was going to be blame if she failed but she didn't really believe that.
"I won't fail," Amy said.
Alex sighed and stood up.
"Today is my free afternoon and as you are going to class with Fred I don't need to tag along, I'll go study what I need instead of that nonsense, if you would excuse me."
He took his tray and walked away without waiting for an answer.
"He is getting worse," Amy said.
"Like what?" I answered.
"He is fun to be around. I mean it sucks to be his sister because of my parents and he never goes to party or have fun but normally he can have a conversation without being a jerk," Amy said.
"Maybe it's hard for him to handle, having two girls soon to be proved a lot smarter than him," I said.
"It could be," Amy said laughing looking in direction of her brother. He was talking to some guys at a table near the entrance. She didn't seem to believe me though. "I can't fail," she added.
"You won't," I answered.
"There is still a better chance I will, what they reproach me the most is that I never finished anything."
"Like the piano and horse riding?" I asked.
"I wanted to stop the music theory only. I had skipped second year with one other girl and the teacher was making us pay for it," she said.
"Like what?"
"Like saying we thought we were better than everyone else and asking extra hard questions which we still could go through which infuriated her even more. Like making comments about how we would know stuff if we had done second year. The thing was we were hear because it was the only compatible schedule, we never asked for anything. So I asked my parents to stop the music theory classes and they took the piano away too. I mean I know I could have managed the piano what I wanted was to play, not to learn to read crazy stuff that I could already read just fine but for them it was no piano without music theory and they never gave me a choice."
"And the horses?"
"I fell in love with the wrong guy," Amy answered. "I'm over it now, but I never rode a horse since."

Wednesday Snippet: Demon World 145

Welcome to a new part of Demon World unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

“Yeah, I’m going”, Azazel answered not really reassured. He first touched the substance moving on the wall with his hand, it was cold and disagreeable, not really sticky but moving in a way that gave him a shiver. He had a move to windrow but the wall attracted him inside of it. His feet left the ground of the room and he felt like he was falling into something deep and that he was never going to stop. He had difficulty to breath before realizing that he didn’t need to breath, the substance all around his was breathing for him, it was like being in very thick water but at the same time the substance was as light as air. He was moving fast, he couldn’t define how fast but he could feel the substance moving fast on his check. He wondered why Seti had been moving so slowly. He finally reached the other side. He was pushed away from the wall of a cave with the same almost sticky substance spread on it. Seti was walking around. As Azazel’s feet touched the ground, he managed to maintain his equilibrium and not to bump in the other demon. He turned around to see the vortex closing behind him. He put his hand on the wall but couldn’t feel anything more than a little change of temperature. He realized that he had forgotten to ask how they were supposed to get back.

“Are they going to be ok?” Gideon asked looking at the wall where the vortex had disappeared.
“I seriously doubt it”, Viorel answered arranging his tools. He needed to tidy up the room, creating the potion had made such a mess.
“Why did you make them go then?” Gideon asked.
“Because I care more for Brownie’s safety”, Viorel answered.
“I’m still not good with those humans we can’t bite” Dylan answered.
“They are interesting”, Viorel answered.
