About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.
The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

The spell had been really simple. She cast a circle as usual got into it, concentrated and lit a white candle. The light had burned so high and bright, as if the spell had been waited to be cast by her all along. She had to focus on it and wait until the candle completely burned out to get her answer. Her candle was supposed to burn for one hour but if burned a lot faster than that when the flame turned to smoke, here was her answer. A location, an image of a place and people, faces, clothes, gestures, she had never seen before appeared very vivid in her mind and she knew exactly where to go. But there was a long trip to get there.
She directed herself to platform number three and checked the number of the cars. She was supposed to be in car five, seat 21 by the window. She had always preferred window seats. She not only liked to look at the passing landscape but also because she felt a lot safer in corners. It hadn't always be the case but it was a survival reaction. With all the demons around in her life now, not that they were all bad, Sahel and his friends weren't, not really, at least not toward anyone in the house or they wouldn't be able to enter it anyway.
Her compartment was almost empty except for a family at the back with two kids arguing with each other and the mother repeatedly telling them to stay quiet with no result and an old man reading a news paper. Brownie was quite happy about that. She spent her all life in a house full of kids and it was always hard to find piece and quiet but the kids here would probably settle down when the train started to move. At least she didn't have a neighbor either in the seat next to her or the seat in front of her so she could put her bag next to her.
It wasn't even five minutes when the engine of the train started to roar. It moved soon after and the kids did settle down. That was it, the beginning of the journey, the point at which it was easier to move forward then to go back. She couldn't escape the trip anymore, not that she wanted to but the motion of the train had something final to it especially that she didn't have a return ticket and didn't know when she would come back.
She waited a little bit before starting to check out what type of food Viorel had prepared for her. She as still feeling hungry but she was sure it wasn't real hunger, more something like stress eating and the fact that she had been out of it and energy depleted. And for a huge part dehydrated. There were two bottles of water in there, no wonder it had been so heavy. She unscrewed the bottle cap of the first and drunk almost one third in one go. She never believed people when they said sometimes thirst felt like hunger but today, it sure did.

Mystery Monday 40: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

Mechanically, I wrote down “find a guy who doesn’t let you wait”, and smiled, half shared into the feeling that if such a man existed, finding him would be hard: I hadn't met one so far, and the fact that my perfect boyfriend would need more qualities. I turned few pages back and read what I had. I swam into my uncertainty. My rushed portrait of the Harajuku mysterious man didn’t look good, subjective and blurred under my own feelings.

I counted the facts. A guy I didn’t know, rather good looking and about the same age as me, who was running to escape something - the escape part was just the intuition kicking in- had kissed me. I didn't lack oxytocin that much but a little part of me wanted to meet him again, just in case he still wanted to kiss me. I stayed dreaming for a moment and read the rest.

WeWriWar 311: The House at the Crossing 16

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!

I decided to change things a little bit so for the next few months, I'm going to present you my new WIP. It's called "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.
It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first come into the House. It's suppose to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Since it's a WIP, and I still haven't finished the first draft, it's still really row. Hopefully, we'll see some improvement as it goes.

Let's start right at where we left off last week!

The other me looks at me as if we had the same thought and that freaks me out.
“My daughter's name is Malicia,” she says. “Malicia and Ryan.”
“Mikala and Hiroshi,” I say.
“But you don't have a daughter,” the other one with the short hair says.
I look in the crib and there is a second form next to Hiroshi, something like a baby girl who seems to be blinking in and out of sight. I tried to grab her but she fully disappears. I can't handle this, did they make Malicia disappear, where is my baby girl.
The other me is holding her daughter as if she is afraid she is going to disappear too. Malicia but she doesn't look like Mikala at all she has a tuff of red hair, pink skin, freckles all around her nose.
Something is off.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 254

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

I thought that she might be right but I wanted to try, I wanted to believe that there was someone, somewhere who was going to understand my feelings and help me. I had never felt more stuck in between worlds than tonight. The arrivals of the new vampires had opened a new door but it wasn’t an escape door, it was a door filled with rage and anger and fear. They were in the village before me at night and they would be after me in the morning. The few minutes I would have to leave Sorina in the dark, were agonizing, I needed someone, something, a way to protect her. The door of the inn open and he entered the garden.
“I knew you might be here,” he said.
I turned around pulling Sorina closer to me, I knew the voice.
“What do you want?” I asked.
“I want to know when you were born, I was said I was the last ever born vampire child and I want to know if you are older than me or if I can pet you like an older brother,” Dylan said.
“I was born in 1159, right here,” I said.
“Damn it, I’m 50 years too late,” Dylan said laughing. “If you try to pet me, I swear I’ll kill you.”
“Stay really close to me, nothing bad will happen to you,” I whispered in Sorina’s ear before pushing her softly behind me.
She didn’t cling at me like she had done the night before, I could feel her pressed against my back but I knew that I could move away quickly to fight if I had too.
“Why did you follow me?” I said to Dylan.
He bent down to take a long grass twig and started to chew on it. I could see his fangs shining in the moon light, his eyes were not as read as they had been the night before, he hadn’t drink yet tonight.
“Because you interest me, I have never met a vampire my age before,” I wondered how it felt. You know we were both born at a time when vampires babies were already rare, the only thing we can do now is to change humans to be like us but they still remain somehow humans, with annoying limitations,” he said walking toward us.
