Thursday Fiction 225: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

"That's irrelevant," Alex answered. "I never noticed before but it seems that my parents never had enough space for two kids in their life, they always needed a good one and a bad one. Before my grades were better and I studied because I liked it so I was the one matching their expectancy. They created this ideal image of my life and wanted me to follow what they had set for me. On the other hand, Amy had no boundary, she seemed to never do anything right and that was accepted as such, even if they still felt disappointed in her poor results, they still had me to show off and everything was good. Now I guess because I failed them somehow, they took the little progresses in Amy's behavior and exchanged our position. Being the one failing them suck and I'm sorry she was there before but I don't see why she has to make it worse by taking their side."
"I'm not sure she realise what she is doing," I said.
"Yeah right, like she could just say whatever they want to hear without doing it on purpose," Alex answered.
"I don't know about that but my mother has been refusing to talk to me since I entered university. And I think it's somehow because she thought she was perfect and she suddenly has to face that she isn't. I think Amy is suffering from the exact opposite. She was the black sheep and now she has the spotlight and she'll do anything to keep it, regardless of the consequences because no matter how much she agree with your parents she can only see how it positively affect her, not how it negatively affects you."

Wednesday Snippet 227: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

“Eyes say a lot more than words at time,” she answered, “The funny things, she was smart my sister, smart enough to be a demon witch without wings, people of all sort feared her, but those downstairs killed her in her magick shop few days ago. They were looking for this.”
She took a black stone out of her pocket and threw it at Torsti.
“I have seen some of those before,” Torsti said.
“I know you have, you have the smell of it, that's why I'm giving his to you, take really good care of it, where you want to be going, you'll need it.” The old woman said.
“But how do you know all this? Why are you helping me?” Torsti said.
“I might look like half a demon due to my wings but I have powers too, I do what I do never without purpose, now eat your breakfast while it's hot and sleep with your shoes on just in case,” she said walking to the door.
“Wait, let's talk, I need to know more about those guys,” Torsti said.

Tuesday Travel 16: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to the first Tuesday Travel post. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

Brownie turned around to face him.
“You don't trust me either,” she said.
“That's not true.”
“Then why do you have to try and control everything I do, and blame me for doing something when I save the day?”
“I never blamed you,” Sahel said.
“Oh please, can we not do this?”
“I'm not giving up on you, you just need to stop using magic, it's too dangerous, you don't need it, you're just being stubborn and capricious, thinking you are always right, but you're wrong this time.”
“Well, I'm giving up on you,” Brownie said. “Now please leave me alone.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I'm leaving.” Brownie said, “I'm going to a witch retreat far from here.”
“Far? Where? When were you going to tell me about this?”
“You don't need to know where, and I'm telling you now.” Brownie answered. She had just made up her mind, she couldn't have said it any time sooner. It was now or never and she had to do it.
“Seriously, I'm your boyfriend, don't you think I deserve a little bit more than that?”
“Actually, it's over Sahel, I can't take it anymore. I don't want to have to hide my true self from someone who supposedly love me. I don't want to be blame every time I take a step or do something that you disapprove of.”
“So you want to what? Break up and run away because we have a disagreement?”

Mystery Monday 16: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

The fresh air of the night rushed inside, a lot warmer than the icy cold wind at the top of the roof, and carried the smell of dirt and water. They were near a lake. The man pulled Kaji out of the trunk more than he carried him out. Kaji felt on the floor with a loud sound. The man in the car jumped out.

“Can’t you at least be quiet?” he whispered probing the darkness.

“There is no one. As you refuse to help me with this one, clean the car!”

The man grabbed Kaji by the shoulders and pulled him further toward the water. It was not a lake, it was a small pond. Kaji didn’t remember ever coming to this part of the city.
