WeWriWar 289: Demon Soul

Welcome to a new excerpt of DEMON SOUL for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday. 

 

Pre-Plot:

Brownie is a normal girl, or so she thinks. She likes to chat with her sisters about random things, she likes fashion and she is member of the fashion club at school. But one day, as her little brother gets really sick because of a curse placed on him, she meets this really strange guy who cures him absorbing the baby's sickness within himself. As he is about to fall from his new acquired fever, Brownie sees Yue's soul and immediately falls in love with him. But Yue is not a human, Yue is a demon.

Brownie and Yue will built their love story until....

Plot:

Until Yue's soul is stolen. There is nothing left of their love. The purple light dancing in Yue's grey eyes is gone. Forever? Not quite. Brownie is desperate to find it back. And to get a soul stolen by demons, she needs to go deep into dark magic! But Brownie is not a witch, she is just looking for a spell powerful enough to bring her love back. When an amateur starts playing with strong magic without preparation and without caring for the consequences, things turn wrong...

Let's start right where we left off last week! 

“Get away from me you stinky thing.”

Brownie continued to punch him on the chest, without any results he seemed to enjoy himself a lot. “You’re just so terrible, how could you? How could you?”

“He still saved your life.”

These words had the immediate effect to calm Brownie down. Viorel had turned back to look at them from the end of the corridor. “Don’t you try anything that foolish ever again on your own, or I’ll make sure it is the last time.”

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 230

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.

Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.

We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.

Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week. 

“Don’t you believe in anything?” she asked but her eyes felt on Alexej and she had a movement of withdraw herself back in.
I jumped on the floor and offered her my hand. She took it still looking at him.
“The lady seems a lot healthier today,” he said.
I could see his teeth so white in his dark face as he was smiling. I could understand Irina’s feeling toward him, he looked like a predator a lot more than I did.
She clung at my hand as if she was trying to give herself some more power to regain her composure.
“I am as healthy as I can be considering your rough driving, you might want to manage the poor horses if you don’t want to be the one pulling the cart in few days, we have a long road before us,” she said with a condescending tone.
I felt like trying to show her higher position to Alexej was for her a way to protect herself but I wasn’t really sure on how the man was going to take it.
He laughed and bowed in front of her taking off his hat.
“As the lady demands,” he said.
She walked past him.
“Can I have dinner before my bath? I’m extremely hungry,” she said to me ignoring him.
Alexej stood back looking at her in a way that had nothing reassuring. He had recovered from his blank state when the carriage had stopped and wasn’t the sort of man to be talked this way by women, leave alone a young girl. I would have to keep those two in check and not leave them together alone. This trip was starting to be a lot more troublesome than I had thought it would be at first. I had seen myself looking for my wolf family but I didn’t though about anything else, let alone interacting with people as strange and mysterious as Irina and Alexej.

Thursday Fiction 224: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

"Come on, every time you come back from your parents you're acting like dog and cat, it's not healthy," I said.

"My father figured it out," Alex answered.

"Figured out what?"

"That I want to be a theoretical physicist and that I don't give a shit about engineering," Alex answered.

"Is that bad?"

"You saw Amy's reaction to the book, theory is evil, I would have been better of joining the church of satan," Alex said.

"So it's that bad."

"Yeah, like with everything they hoped for me, I'm such a disappointment while Amy is doing so well for herself taking all those extra classes and having her feet on the ground while I'm just dreaming about things that don't exist and won't be helping me get a decent job," Alex said.

"Outch."

"Yeah, so Amy couldn't help jumping on the occasion, it's like she had been waiting for it all along. As if my failing was the only way out for her. And I'm not even really failing, I'm just not meeting the expectation that my parents secretly had for me. Not that they seemed to have any for her. So I'm the bad kid and she became the one my parents are telling all her friends about. My father even showed her up at a meeting with a client because she does everything so well."

"But your grades are so much higher," I said trying to cheer him up a little.

Wednesday Snippet 226: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

Torsti recognized the voice of the old woman from the lobby but didn't expect her to quit her television set to come give them some breakfast up here. He decided to stay on guard and opened the door slowly.

“I see you already took a shower, I was going to bring towels later,” the old woman said pushing the door with the tray and entering behind Torsti's spread arm. “There are nasty beast playing outside, you better stay in for a while.”

“Wouldn't it be better for you if we were to get away as fast as possible,” Torsti said.

“I will pretend that I didn't here that,” the old woman said, “You should be careful with your words young man, they can be deadly.”

She left the trail on the table in the opposite corner of the room. Torsti noticed that she had only one wing and a glass eye to complete the picture. He wondered what could have happened to her to make her this way.

“I was born like that, I was the older sister, my parents called me a trial compared to my beautiful younger sister,” the old woman said.

“I didn't mean...” Torsti started.
