Thursday Fiction 197: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

My mind couldn't help going back to the spaceship and Antares and Michelle's dad somewhere in the universe and the reason why everyone wanted to stop her from finding him. Her life was definitely more exiting than mine. I closed my eyes and blinked so many times in front of my textbook that I thought I was going to get back there but the truth was Michelle didn't need me right now and nobody seemed to need me enough to call me to them. I had no choice but to read.
"I need food," Amy said.
She might have been all happy but she had this look on her face. The look of the person who have been ingesting way to much information all at once.
"Let me finish my chapter and we can cook something," I said.
"You have been staring at the same page for ever," Amy said, "You definitely need a break."
"What I need is a better brain," I said.
That made her laugh, a sort of tired laugh, she needed sleep more than food a well deserved one.
"Maybe you shouldn't be trying to understand everything," she said. "Maybe you can just fly through it, by the time you're done with all those books, if you go back to the first, I'm sure it'll be easier already."

Wednesday Snippet 200: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

He never wanted to admit it but he was envious of the demons. When Brownie had brought a demon home and when that guy had showed off, Isakael had felt as if something was breaking inside of him. The power, no matter how much he tried, he was not strong enough to protect the people around him but this guy, this stranger, this supposedly vil creature had been. Isakael always hated being an angel but there was nothing he could do about it. He could leave far away from other angels, he could refuse to cure anyone, he could just stand and yell at everyone for not doing the right thing and complain all day about it, there was no way of changing who he was, those heavy wings in his back which at time gave him a back ache were nothing he could hide. He was an angel and that was his curse. That scary voice during the trance had told him it could be different and that's what scared him the most. He wanted to change but there was no way of doing it without pain.

The diner was over and the angels stood up in order and walked out of the dining room. Isakael followed the lead, his hands once again hidden in his sleeves. He was wondering if he was the only one feeling so cold. He was used to be able to change the temperature at will in his room had home. The cold wind greeted him again in the corridor. The moon was low in the sky, just above the wall on the other side of the palace. Isakael looked at it. The moon had no meaning hear. It was so beautiful and still, it had no meaning, just like nature had no meaning. Only god was prevalent. Suddenly, he felt that it was wrong, that everything was wrong with this place, that it was just taking everything out of the world. Maybe that's what the devil had felt too, that there was something wrong in the order of things, it seemed so unnatural. Isakael resumed his walk to his bedroom. There was a group of angels chatting in a very low voice in a dark corner but he didn't stop to give them any attention. He had a lot on his mind, just as usual, communicating with other people was not his forte. He opened the door and locked it hastily behind him as he if feared of being followed.
“One more day passed, one to go,” he said crashing on his bed.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 202

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet?Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left of last week.

He hit her, he was drunk again. She was bleeding when she came to my room. That was the night when she gave me the key and told me to always lock myself here when I didn’t need to go out. She told me to ignore him if he knocked at the door. Few days later she was gone, I don’t know where she was but it had made him very made. I stayed in my for a week without eating, I was too scared of him, I was waiting for her to come back. After a while he calmed down and stopped knocking at the door. I could go out to eat and then I took her place cleaning, preparing the food for him. I was still hiding myself in my room as soon as the meals were over and the kitchen cleaned and locking the door. The night when he was drunk he would be loud and knocking a lot it was scary but I could huddle up in my blanket with the cat and fell safe. The day when he was sober were the worse, I knew he was preparing something but last night I didn’t protect myself well enough. He had bought me a dress, he would normally never do that, you see what sort of garment I have in the drawers, he had sold all my good dresses, the one from my dad to get money. The only valuable thing I have left is my mother’s scarf and the pendant she gave me. He asked me to try it on and to show him. I was careful to close the door and locked it behind me to change but when I came back he invited me to the restaurant, telling me that we were going to see musician playing, and that’s what we did. I was so happy to have music in my life again, it had been such a long time, that I didn’t remember much of it, last time was before my mum married him. I relaxed myself too much and he gave me some wine, I didn’t need much to get tipsy I am not used to drink alcohol then it was too late. He was touching me too much while walking it the street it was indecent but he was stronger than me, I was scared but still laughing I was like a spectator in my own body, I didn’t know what I was doing I was fighting in my mind but felt so weak. I will never let a man give me alcohol again it was a horrible sensation. And then we went to that unknown room, I knew what he wanted, but I couldn’t fight. I called him dad for the first time thinking that it would stop him but it didn’t, but you did. I saw what you did to him what I don’t understand is why I am still alive,” she said.

Thursday Fiction 196: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

"It's the chlorine in the water, it gives me some sort of rash under my swimming suit," Amy said.
"Only under the swimming suit, cause the rest of her skin is so tough," Alex said.
Amy laughed and I laughed with them but I wasn't feeling too well about Amy's relationship with her parents. It had seemed to be fine. Everything was great until she befriended me. I wondered if I had that effect on people. If my failing relationship with my mother was somehow contagious. I mean Amy and Alex's relationship with their parents wasn't perfect in the first place but they had somehow achieved some sort of ballance.
"Let's go back to our reading," Amy said.
"No thank you," Alex answered, "I'm sure you're either going to get yourselves sick or totally burned out with no chance of recovery."
"No way, organic chemistry is so much fun," Amy answered.
Alex rolled his eyes and left without saying anything else. He somehow had a point. Amy seemed so happy with her reading, she really enjoyed it and I sort of envied her for that. As we continued through our reading I was bored to death. I couldn't help but yawning and yawing again as I struggled to keep my eyes opened and drinking tea wasn't really helping much to keep me awake. I sat up and straightened myself. I hated it. And that was my own fault. Despite trying hard all through high-school and reading extra books, nothing had really prepared me for this. The book I was reading was way over my head. It was filled with unknown concept. If I had been introduce to electromagnetism more gradually that might have helped but it seemed to be a gap between my current knowledge and what I was expecting from myself. Still I knew that the only way to learn was to get through it. You can't possibly learn anything by avoiding it.
