Thursday Taster 132: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week

"I don't think biology is easier than physics," I interrupted Amy. "I mean look at all that new vocabulary that you need to use all the time and to learn and I'm not even telling you about the organic chemistry formulas, those are atrocious."
Amy first looked at me blankly until I said atrocious and then she laughed but it was a sad laugh.
"Maybe," she said.
I didn't want to hear her complain about Alex and how unfair in was for her. I had no sibling except for Jonas, I had been alone with my mother most of my life and I always imagined that it would be great to have someone to play with someone who had to love you but I didn't imagine what it could be like.
"The thing is, it doesn't matter if it's hard or not, the only thing that matter is that Alex is doing physics because he is the smart one and I'm doing biology because that's the thing I should be doing. They'll never validate me unless I become president or something." Amy said.
"Then why did you chose biology, why not take physics like Alex and finish the competition with him?"
"Because I want to..."
"Yes," I said.
"No, that's silly ok let'S forget about it," Amy said.
"So that's what you told your parents? That you were going to do biology for a silly reason?"
"I told them I wanted to study marine biology and oceanography and they answered that at least I could find a job at a restaurant cooking fish or on a fisherman boat."
"Really?" I said.
"They have no idea what marine biology is and they have no idea what research actually is at all so imagine if I had told them that I wanted to look for aliens."
"Aliens, you mean like astrobiology and atmospheric research on exoplanets?" I asked.

Thursday Taster 131: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

"I'm not so smart you know," Amy said.
I figured I wanted to tell her. A part of me really wanted to yell at her for dragging me into this but I had sorta dragged myself in wanting to play the super hero when I knew what would happen. Maybe I wasn't too smart either on this one. It could have turned out really bad. I didn't know if Mike-nick and Jimmy were the type of guy who could understand "no" when they heard it but I was glad I wouldn't have to find out.
"The only reason I graduated high-school is because Alex was always explaining me everything and letting me copy on his homework when he couldn't bother," Amy said. "He is the smart one of the two. He is the best one and I'm just my parents big disappointment. He could always get whatever he wanted and I just had to pretend it was ok."
"What do you mean by that?"
I had seen her shoes closet, there was no way her parents had been flavoring Alex over her, at least not with stuff.
"There was a competition between us, always. I guess that's what happened with siblings. My mother wanted a boy and she had Alex, I was just the extra thing that came with. We always stayed in his room for bedtime story and then I had to move back to mine. He could chose the program on TV, he received all the praise. And then, there was the grad, he is smarter than me obviously so I had no choice but to play best second. Alex works so hard and I'm not, Alex is the best at math because he is a boy, Alex is the best at language because he likes book so much. So I thought, if I was top of my classes here, if I could pull that of. I mean they already said that biology is way easier than physics so I'm not going to get praised even if I'm valedictorian but I thought if I could do that at least I wouldn't have to believe them anymore, at least I wouldn't have to see myself as a failure anymore because I could do something that my brother couldn't do. And the truth is that I don't know how to get there so when every one ran away from Tamara's big plan on how to be top of the year, I stuck around. I mean I don't know what I thought it was really it was just something I was desperate for."

Thursday Taster 130: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week.

I remembered that we almost missed it the first time. The time table showed that the bus was supposed to arrived a few minutes earlier. It wasn't there and I tried to consider a new plan if we really had miss it. We couldn't stay here exposed. I couldn't take my eyes away from the car on the other side of the road. They were going to come for us soon enough. I needed a new plan and quickly.
"The bus!" Amy said grabbing my arm.
She seemed happy or relieved but I wasn't, not yet. I was half expecting the guys to rush out of the street and come at us before we were on board.
The light of the bus attracted the attention of the people in the car and their light turned on too, coming in ur direction. The bus stopped in front of us and Amy climbed first. I followed her waiting to figure out if the doors were going to close before anyone from her group of friend was able to get it. We walked to the back, there was noone else in the bus except an old woman with a winter coat that she was hugging as if she was cold. I was once again surprised that anyone could be cold, I was feeling feverish.
The door closed after what seemed to be an eternity and we crossed the car. I could see that Jimmy was the driver but I didn't linger to look at him. I finally took a breath out when the bus finally drove away.
"Where is this bus going?" Amy asked.
"No idea, anywhere is better than here."
Amy started to laugh as I closed my eyes and leaned on the back seat as if it was my savior. In a way, it was.
"Thank you for getting us out of here," Amy said.
"You're welcome."
I answered looking at the houses passing in front of me through the window.
This was a dredged part of town, there was no light what-so-ever. I realised that we had been running in semi-darkness all along and I didn't even notice earlier, it had been so luminous to me, I knew exactly where to go.

Thursday Taster 129: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week.

I nodded, it was the same car as in the previous world. As expected the car that hid us the first time was there too. I pulled on Amy's arm to make her squat next to me behind it. It was the car next to which Tamara had parked. Seeing how many of them were there and after us, they probably had other cars too. Amy took a look above the car we were hiding behind.
"I think there is someone in there," she said.
"I would guess so," I answered looking too. Not that I didn't trust her but I preferred to have my information first hand.
I took a deep breath going back. I could rely on the information from the other world and not one hundred percent. I should have known that but that was still bugging me. I wanted it to be all the same I wanted everything to be like it was before but it wasn't, so I needed to get over it. It still bought us some times while we hid in the room even if I had to fight with the door so I guess we were lucky I had that black out, just I was feeling exhausted.
"We need to take the bus, when I say run, run," I said to Amy.
"What bus?"
"The one which is going to come like really soon. If we run, we can make it."
I could see the bus stop from here, at least that didn't change much.
"Is that why you were looking at the bus map all along?" Amy asked.
I notted.
"Let's go, run!"
I stood up and ran as fast as I could trying to listen for the bus but the bus wasn't coming. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me but if the bus wasn't coming the car with whoever was inside would be coming for us. Did we really get out too early, was the bus really not coming? I stopped at the bus stop and checked the time. I had trouble to make sense of the time table. I checked my watch a couple of time.
"There is no bus," Amy said in panick.
"There will be, there has to be a bus it will come," I said.

Thursday Taster 128: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week.

"That's a bit of a complicated long story," I said.
"I'm sorry I dragged you into this, you didn't even really want to come in the first place," she said.
"That's ok, I knew something like that wouldn't happen I couldn't let you go alone," I answered.
The foot steps were gone but I was still not ready to go out, I tried to remember how long my other self had stayed in here. Not too long.
"You knew?" Amy said.
"Same as for the door, complicated, insane, not the right time to talk about it," I said.
I didn't even know why I mentioned it. I could have just said it was ok, I could have just said anything but maybe it was the adrenalin rush, maybe it was the half glass of punch or maybe it was that I was more concerned about getting out here than protecting my parallel world travel secret, I didn't care much about what I was saying.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Amy asked.
"If I had told you, you wouldn't have believed me and you would have come here alone," I said.
Amy bite her lips.
"I thought you had no idea what was happening," she said. "You didn't even know about the group and the grades thing they can do for you and..."
"We better go, they have been gone for a while, now we can get in the opposite directions and go back to the road," I said.
"I still don't understand," Amy said.
"Let's go," I said opening the door slightly. I looked in both directions and listened. There was no sign on anyone and they were no foot step noises either. It was now or never. I slipped out and started to run toward the road. From here it was all like I had done before. Amy was on my heal but she had trouble following without slipping and catching herself back. We weren't as fast as I was expecting we would be. I wanted out of here as soon as possible.
Amy pulled on my sleeve to stop me.
"That's there car over there." She said.

Thursday Taster 127: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week.

"That's what he asked?"
"He said that's what all the girls in the group did," Amy said.
"Unbelievable!"
"And that's what made them top students of their year," Amy continued.
"Like Tamara," I said.
"She is the exception, all right," Amy said. "I don't know but we can't stay here."
"I found them."
A guy game from the side I wasn't looking at rushing toward me.
"I can agree with that."
I grabbed Amy's hand and we started running again. I had no plan, I couldn't think straight there was too many things happening too fast.
We turned in a narrower street on the right when people came from in front of us. They knew the area and we didn't and Amy might be right, it might have been better to try and talk to them but everything inside my body was telling me to run. We turned left again. I recognised that street at last. It was the same as in the other world. I run faster. Amy had trouble to follow, I didn't even understand how she had managed to get that far on her heals. The ground was uneven and slippery with trash and unrecognizable things that I didn't want to think about.
I found the door. It wasn't the right color, it was blue. I hesitated a little before pushing Amy toward it. We didn't have a choice, if it didn't open they would catch up with us in the end. I was so nervous that I missed to knob. I pushed on the door with my shoulder, it didn't move. The little differences from one world to the next. I could totally feel how different they made the worlds now. The details were suddenly all so important.
I took the knob and turned it in the other direction, it was one of those awful round version. The door finally opened and I pulled Amy inside closing the door behind us. The entire operation might have only taken a few seconds but it felt like forever. I waited to hear their foot steps and they finally came.
"How did you know it would be open?" Amy asked.

Thursday Taster 126: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week.

"I can't, I need to go back," she said.
"To take Tamara's place as Jimmy's toy?" I asked.
She bite her lips and looked back.
"I can't pass my classes without their help," she said.
"Pass you classes, like Tamara did," I said.
She looked back again. The group was forming behind her.
"Fred, I..."
"We gotta go, I'll take care of your classes," I said pushing her hard.
The door opened for us and the cold outside fresh air hit me hard on the face. I turned left, I had no idea where I was going except away from here and not toward the parking lot. The music had deafen me and all I could hear was the click of Amy's heals as she followed behind me until voices started to yell. Now wasn't the moment to think, now was the moment to run. So we ran.
"I can't do this," Amy said behind me out of breath.
I was feeling a little out of breath too and I was looking for clues, for marks I couldn't find. It was making me edgy. I couldn't recognize the streets as the one I saw in the other world. We were supposed to go to a party later and I wondered if that was the place where my other self had rescue Amy. This wasn't going to do. I stopped behind a bin and squatted, Amy hid behind me. The smell was atrocious. I could still hear the others voices yelling at each others. They seemed to be everywhere.
"What about we go back and ask Tamara to drive us back and I tell her I don't need their help for the class and to forget about everything," Amy said.
"And you think that would work?" I asked.
Amy gave me a blank look.
"Tamara is not really the one in charge here either," I continued.
"They are not so bad, I guess I think if we explained to them that we didn't know what is going on, we can just go to the party and forget about the rest..."
"Look Amy, I don't know what is going on, I don't need anyone's help to pass my classes and certainly not that kind of help anyway," I said.
"Tamara said I just had to go to party and date Jimmy a little," Amy said, "and he is gorgeous just..."
"You don't feel like dating him," I said.
"I don't feel like going with him in the back room to play base one hundred," Amy said biting her lips.

Thursday Taster 125: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

"It's ok, even with me you can pass," he said, "As Tamara brought two girls tonight we had to make other arrangements."
He was so closed, he smelled like beer. But I needed more information.
"What kind of arrangements?" I asked.
"Well, you'll do the same with me you should have done with Jimmy, until we get a new girl to replace your friend for him then you are part of the group," he yelled.
"Oh," I said.
He looked at me as if I was a dummy. I had no idea what I was supposed to do with him but if it involved more touching I was going to kick him somewhere where it hurts.
"Did Tamara do it to?" I asked.
"Yeah, she brought you for her finish, it's her big night," Mike-nick said.
"And what does that mean?" I asked.
"You know no slaving around anymore, but I'll be gentle on you," Mike-nick said.
Amy pushed Jimmy a little too hard and he bumped into Mike-nick.
"Something is wrong," she said grabbing my hand.
She seemed scared and I wondered why I wasn't scared anymore.
"We're going to the toilet," I said, turning to the guys. Mike-nick tried to grab my wrist again, damn was he annoying. I evaded the contact and smile at him. "We'll be right back," I said winking.
I pulled Amy in the other direction toward the toilet sign. There must have been something huge going on because Tamara and two other girls were standing in front of the door. I pulled Amy in the direction of the exit but she stopped me. The music seemed a lot quieter here, or maybe I had just grown accustomed to it.

Thursday Taster 124: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week.

I couldn't know that, I wasn't in biology class with her.
Jimmy extended his hand to Amy and she took it. They walked further away from the table between people and I lost side of them. Mike or Nick whatever his name was took my hand and pulled me up. Not like he was asking more like he was forcing me and he waked in the same direction. I followed him. I needed to find Amy. That was the plan, to stuck with her and get us out of trouble. I didn't like the grip he had on my hand and I didn't like that his hands were freezing cold. I was hot as hell in here with all the people around and the smoke and the music, I was sweating under my shirt, how could Mike-nick's hand be so cold.
There was a dancing area. A place where people weren't standing as close to each other then in the other parts of the bar and color spots of light were brushing the people and the floor. I spotted Amy and Jimmy. They were dancing. Mike-nick started to dance too without releasing my wrist. I smiled at him and started to dance too, it was so awkward. I think he relaxed because I could feel his grip on my soften until I managed to fully free myself. He didn't take his eyes of me and I kept glancing at Jimmy and Amy.
"Sorry you have to do with me, Jimmy can only handle one girl at a time," Mike-nick said bending near my ear.
I pushed away from him and smiled. I think I had never forced myself to smile so much in my entire life, my cheeks were starting to feel painful at the new exercise. But what the hell was that supposed to mean: Jimmmy can only handle one girl at a time? There was no way anyone was handling me, no Jimmy and definitely not Mike-nick. Mike-nick was trying to get closer and I used that to move toward Amy as subtly as possible. She seemed to be trying to move away from Jimmy's grips too but she was still genuinely smiling. I didn't know what was going on. In my world, well in all of them, people kept their hands for themselves unless they knew each other and mutually agreed on things like that. I realized how protected I had been all my life and how naive that made me. Damn. I had travelled to so many world but I didn't know how to handle a guy coming hard at me and Mike-nick had one hand on my shoulder and the other on my hips before I knew it and was pulling my closer. I put my hands on his chest and pushed and he grabbed my wrist again.

Thursday Taster 123: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week.

Jimmy had arrived. I couldn't see him at first with all the people standing around me but they seemed to move around to make a way for him to get to the table. Jimmy had short dark and spicky hair that I wanted to touch just to have a feel which wasn't really like me. There was no way his hair could stay up like that naturally and I reminded myself that gel for guys was always annoyingly sticky. I had heard that many girl complain about that on their boyfriend. He had dark brown eyes and a gorgeous smile.

"Wow, that's Jimmy," Amy yelled in my ear, "I wonder if he has a girlfriend."

And I wondered if Amy had ever heard of sticky hair. Why was he late and why was everybody so happy to see him, I didn't know. He clapped all the guys on the back and smiled at every girls before turning to Amy and me.

"So those are the new recruits," he said.

Some how I didn't have trouble to read his lips and hear him but I didn't like the way he was saying it. It felt a bit wrong, his teeth seemed too long when he smiled, like a predator and I was the prey. I pushed my glass away from me. This time I wasn't drinking anymore. It was as if Jimmy's presence had turned on my danger radar on big time. Not the nervousness I had been feeling so far, the black out type of world recognition that was telling me each time, where are you and what is the problem at hand? Fix it then you can go home. Except that this time it wasn't the body of one of my other selves I was in, it was mine.

"So lets the game beginning so that we can go to the party," Jimmy said passing his hand in his hair. He had a tattoo on his wrist. I couldn't make up the sign but I had seen it somewhere before.

"I think I saw Jimmy before, he looks familiar," I said to Amy who seemed totally mesmerized by him. She couldn't take her eyes away from him.

"He is in third year, and he work in a lab we toured on the first day," she yelled back in my ears without taking her eyes from him.

Thursday Taster 122: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week.

Now I never had alcohol before, I never even been in a place with any alcohol allowed except at my mother's brother once after he had a party. I knew of alcohol though, from the kids at school, just I never was invited to the parties not that my mother would have let me go anyways. So this was my first. I tried to see how I felt with the little bit I had drunk so far. I felt normal. I had heard that punch was traitorous that it would be ok for a while then come crash at me or something. I was already half expecting to be sick. Amy was already at her second glass. She leaned toward me again.
"We are waiting for Jimmy and when he arrives we can go to the party," she yelled in my ear.
"Who is Jimmy?" I asked.
"I have no idea." She answered giggling before moving her head to the music again.
I took another sip from my glass cautiously and then a larger one.
"I was afraid you didn't like it," Tamara yelled at me.
"It's good," I said.
It was true, it was good but I couldn't push away the thought that I couldn't get drunk, not tonight, not surrounded by people I didn't know, not in this weird place. I couldn't help to think about what it would do to my black out. I needed to know what it was and how it would affect me. I didn't think I could get drunk with half a glass. Amy didn't seem to be drunk and she was starting on her third glass. Tamara was drinking something that looked transparent like water but I knew it wasn't from the viscosity, I wonder who was going to drive and that scared me again a bit more. I was definitely going to take the bus. I took one more sip getting more appreciative looks from people around. I didn't care, I should have brought a water bottle I was so thirsty. The alcohol seemed to be helping me relax and I wasn't sure it was a good thing. I couldn't wait for Jimmy to arrive to get out of here.
"Jimmy!" One of the guy yelled so loud that a lot of people turned to him before turning to the direction he was gazing at.

Thursday Taster 121: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week.

I had to repeat to myself that everything was going to be ok as I looked at the beer bottles and empty glasses on the table. It seemed that they had been here drinking for quite a while already. They were nine of them. five girls and four boys and with Amy, Tamara and me that made twelve people. The guy who had stood up for us was talking with other people standing but I couldn't see how many was in that group. That was a lot of friends.
"I'm Amy," Amy said looking around.
"Tracy," one of the girl said, she had long blond hair going up in a pony tail.
"Mike," the boy on who's knees she was sitting answered. Or was it Nick? I had no idea, I couldn't make the sound of his voice out and I was trying to read on their lip except that lips reading wasn't something I was really used to.
Tamara came back after what seemed an eternity and I was pretty grateful to her by that time as the atmosphere was making me thirsty. Amy was moving her head to the music as it was the only thing we could do and I was doing the same.
"Here," Tamara said sitting on the half free chair with a guy next to Amy. I had a feeling she wanted nothing to do with me. After seeing me black out, a lot of people had that reaction so it didn't bother me too much, I didn't like her either anyway.
Amy passed me one of the glass.
"Here is your juice." She said smiling.
I was thirsty alright but I looked at the glass suspiciously. The orange-yellow liquid could have been orange juice or carrot juice or any mixed juice but I didn't see these people here the kind to drink juice. And second, if we had to escape, they might as well have put something funny in it. Was I supposed to drink something from someone I barely knew? I turned the liquid in the glass considering my options. This was getting too much. Amy wasn't that cautious though. She took her first sip, her face changed as if something tasted unexpected and she looked at Tarama who mouthed something like "So" and she smiled nodding. Tamara winked at her. Then they both looked at me. I guess it was my turn to try it. At least Amy looked ok. I took a small sip of the thing as if it was something poisonous. Alcohol. Great, that's all I needed. I smiled back at them forcefully and took a larger sip in encouragement before putting my glass on the table well decided not to touch it again. I still held it in my hand though, playing with it, it was tasty.

Thursday Taster 120: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week.

Tamara was right to say that it was more a bar then a club, but the music was so loud that we couldn't hear each other talking without being two centimeters from mouth to ear and the smoke was so thick they I doubted the law against cigarette in public place ever reached this corner of the city. I wasn't used to smoke, my mother didn't smoke and I was coughing, it was disgusting.
But that wasn't what worried me the most as I followed Amy, who followed Tamara, in the middle of the crowed toward somewhere I couldn't even see. What worried me were the streets around, they had the narrowness, the bad lightening and the disgusting putrid smell of detritus I had remembered from the other world. It was far from reassuring.
We reached a table already crowded with girls sitting two on a chair or on boys's knees.
"Hi everyone," Tamara yelled as she left her handbag on the already pilled handbag in the corner. Than made me happy to be more a backpack girl than a handbag girl and I kept mine on my back, you never know when you will need to run.
People waved and said things I couldn't hear. The music was vibrating in my ears and I wonder why people wanted to sit here. Tamara had said that the club was more like a bar and this was a bar as nobody was dancing, people were sitting or standing in groups with drinks and they couldn't talk to each other. There was no way to run out of here without making a mess. I looked around trying to relax. It was my first time in a place like this. I felt a bit disoriented, the same feeling of being stuck I had with the fire except that people were all around me. I tried to calm myself down but there was no use. Amy on the contrary had a huge smile from ear to ear. She was enjoying this.
She leaned closer to my ear to yell but her voice barely made it above the sound of the music.
"Isn't it amazing? I feel like an adult."
I nodded. I didn't want to break her fun but this was as far away as being an adult as I could imagine. I wouldn't have been a lot better studying in Alex room. I would have been much better on a spaceship doing things I had no idea how to do. This was too much.
Tamara leaned toward Amy's ear before walking away.
"She said to sit, she is getting us drinks," Amy yelled at me before inviting me to share half of her chair after one of the boys stood up to leave it for us.

Thursday Taster 119: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

We start right where we left off last week.

I didn't wait for them to answer. I closed my door as fast as I could and collapsed on my bed. My heart was beating faster than I recalled ever have felt her beat. I was scared. "She is going into shock," the help or nurse or whoever was there had said but it is the mind or the body going into shock? I had no idea and I needed to remember to look it up. I could still feel the fire licking at my body. I pulled up my sleeves to make sure that I didn't have the black traces on my arms my other self had had. I opened my notebook and started to write down every details furiously. I had to calm down. I needed to get it out of my system.
I look at the water on my desk. I was thirsty. I didn't realise how much until know but I stop my hand on the bottle and searched for more traces of fire on my body before opening it. Of course, this body hadn't been into a fire. I had been on Amy's bed that entire time and the closest thing to fire in that room was her Tamara dragon. The thought made me laugh and finally relax. I didn't bother taking out a glass and just drunk as much water as I could without making myself sick. It had the effect of getting the last fright about the fire out of me. I also wanted a shower but I knew there was no time for that.
I looked for the buses once more. I was finally really back into this world. The transition weren't always really easy but I guess waking up from the black out at the hospital was making them easier. I needed to build something familiar around here to help myself get back with reality. I didn't want to carry everything from one world to the next, that would have been plain weird. Still as I looked for the bus to save ourself tonight I wonder what was wrong with me. Why the different worlds suddenly seemed so connected. After all, I didn't see Tamara in the other world. I didn't know that it was tonight's party were there would be something difficult happening. It could be any party, any time. I closed my eye and took a deep breath. The panic was still present. In a very insidious form. I needed to go through tonight too to completely get rid of everything. The meaning of life, the meaning of death, the meaning of my travel and the meaning of blacking out just for me. That's what I was looking for and I didn't really kow why every one else seemed to be living their life as if they didn't know that there was something more beyond. There was no meaning in partying, there was no meaning in trying to fit in or make friends. It was all just a distraction from what we really wanted and what we really needed and the search for meaning but somewhere inside of me, I wanted to be friend with Amy. Maybe, if I really saved us tonight, that would also allow me to figure out the meaning to my trips. Why I was going there and why me.

Thursday Taster 118: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.
We start right where we left off last week.

"She is doing that often, how often? Are you sure it's a good idea to bring her to the party?" Tamara was saying. "I'm not going there to babysit someone who can't even stay awake without drinking."
I closed my eyes again. I didn't want to deal with her just now even though I knew I had to. That's what it meant to be an adult and to leave outside of my mum's reach, I had to deal with other people. I suddenly wasn't sure if that was a good thing. I saw the fire in my mind. And death, that's what death really looked like at least I knew my other self was going to be ok, she was in a safe place when I left her.
"It's fine, she'll be back with us in no time," Amy said.
I could hear in her voice that she was uncomfortable. I guess if I had been a party girl that would have been a lot easier for her. If I wasn't blacking out out of nowhere, it would have been easier for every one.
"Is it narcolepsy or what?" Tamara was asking again.
"I black out, that's what it is," I said releasing Amy from having to explain.
"And?" Tamara asked her hand on her hips as if she meant business.
"And." I said.
"And what? How often do you do it? Should we get you a bed or medicine or what?" Tamara asked. She seemed a bit pissed.
"I black out, the end, the rest doesn't concern you."
"I'm the one driving you girls out," Tamara said eying me in disbelieve.
Damn, I just escaped death and she was going all offended on my as if seeing me black out once was going to irremediably alter her life or something.
"We can always stay her or take the bus, if that bother you so much to see me go quiet in your car for a few minutes," I wasn't putting with that diva crap. I knew I wasn't normal but I wasn't going to apologize for it. I'm different, not my fault and geez I loved my black out. Not to mention that I was two finger away from freaking out.
I stood up and walked out.
"Let me know when you are ready if we're still going."

Thursday Taster 117: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.
We start right where we left off last week.

Everything was red. I blinked. I didn't count how many time but everything was red around me and the emergency alarm was yelling in my ears. I coughed as I tried to breath and the smell of smoke caught me in the throat. I feel totally disoriented and out of it except that I was deep, deep in it, fire, everywhere. I guess this time my other self called me because she knew she was going to die and didn't want to be there to witness it herself. I turned around, there was nothing familiar about the place. I looked for a wall, tried to get to one. It was so hot. My sweat was liking in my eyes, she had probably been there for ever.
"Oh my god, I'm going to die."
I cried, there was nothing I could do except trying to move and find a wall. But my tears and the sweat were not helping.
What would happen to me if I was do die in my other self body? Would I die to in my real body? I could feel the panic grab me, my heart was beating faster and faster. Something heavy felt on my shoulders. Hands, cloved yellow hands turned me around.
I couldn't see the face I couldn't say anything. I couldn't hear anything but the fire. He picked me up and carried me through the fire. The orange flames were licking us. I tried to hide my face against his chest but It was to hot to touch anything.
We reach the outside. I still couldn't ear anything. He let me on the grass. Someone put a blanket on top of my shoulders. I realized I was cold suddenly and started to shiver. There were people around, their lips were moving without sound. I turned to look at the fire. I didn't know the house that was burning, I had no idea.
"She is going into shock," a unknown voice said.
Then my mother was in front of my shaking me. She slapped me across the face but I didn't react. The entire scene seemed like a strange deja-vu, or an old movie, moving in front of my eyes in slow motion. Someone grabbed my mother and she continued yelling at me but she was tuned out, I didn't know what she was saying or what I had done wrong. Someone turned me around and walked me to an ambulance. I sat there for a while and....
