Thursday Fiction 416: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“They want to create an heir to replace you,” Romulus said.

“They have Malik for that.”

“Yes, the son of Mike,” Romulus answered with a disgusted look on his face.

“Wait, what?”

“Your brother is only your half brother, which is why you are under surveillance and he isn't, he doesn't have a tracker. He is awake at all time in two different universes, they can't track him,” Romulus said.

“But that's impossible,” Isabelle answered.

“He is the son of your mother and Mike, he got the power from both of them, they tried it when they heard the story of the heir of Anarin and it worked. Now they want to create an army. Make as many of us have children in this world so that all our descendants would be travelers.”

Thursday Fiction 415: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“There is a very good reason why Michelle-Frederique of Anarin is here,” Romulus said.

He put on the light to signal a turn but continued straight at the next two crossings. What the hell was he doing? Isabelle wasn't the best driver in the world but she at least knew how to use the blinking lights.

“And what is that?”

“Her father was on Hamelin when he conceived her,” Romulus said. “So his power which came from his mind leaked into her body and not in the body of her other self on Anarin who only had his shell.”

“Oh,” Isabelle said. That was explaining things even if she wasn't sure how to react to the sexual news sitting in a tiny space next to Romulus.

“And because your universe has so many travelers, they want to do experiments, and we can't let this happen,” Romulus said.

“What kind of experiments,” Isabelle said.

Thursday Fiction 414: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“But nothing happened,” Isabelle said.

“That's not an excuse,” Romulus hit the wheel with his fist and the car took a dangerous sideway slip to the left.

He steadied it back and concentrated on the road.

“So what happened at the meeting?”

“They are fools, all fools!”

That didn't make much sense but the car vacillated to the left again and Isabelle decided to start asking questions later, once they were somewhere safer, after all Romulus's other self had his driving license but she was sure Romulus didn't have one at least not in this universe. His was quite different.

“There is something really wrong with your universe,” Romulus said. “Too many of you have the power. It shouldn't run that freely in one family. The rule is one by generation but in the previous generation, your uncle and your mother had it. In this one, you and your brother...”

“And the impostor,” Isabelle interrupted.

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

When he finally appear, he was running. He unlocked the door with a bip bip sound without stopping and headed directly for his side.

“Get in the car,” he said.

Not in a friendly tone, he was barking an order. Isabelle looked from where he came from but didn't see anything. He was already on the driver seat and pushed her door open from the inside.

“Now!” He said.

Isabelle hesitated just a second but if she was going to do this, she'd better do it now. She sat and closed the door, Romulus was driving before she had time to put her seat-belt on.

“I'm sorry for yesterday,” he finally said after a long moment of silence.

“That's alright,” Isabelle answered.

“No, that's not all right,” he said, “I should have taken you away after diner, I would never have forgiven myself if something had happened to you.”

Thursday Fiction 412: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

But once, she did, once she truly believed that her mother was right about everything. It made her tried harder and slowly lose confidence as she was never good enough and then she snapped.

It had to happen, she couldn't keep going that way. It had been easy not to think for herself for a while but she had to see things through her own eyes and those things weren't right. The favoritism, the unfairness, the never ending wrong doing on her side. It was impossible even for someone very terrible to be always wrong.

Even in books, the villains were bad but they had some reasoning behind it, they had some purpose and sometimes it did make sense.

For her family nothing she did ever made sense.

What was she supposed to do last night, let her nose bleed to listen to her mother?

Let that thing inside of her continue to run in her body and do who knew what and tell her mother which universes she visited? It was illogical. Maybe removing the tracker before time was a bad thing but from her point of view keeping it in was even worse.

Thursday Fiction 411: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Isabelle didn't have too much problem finding Romulus's double's car. It was the only one parked so far away from the house, the only one parked in the direction ready to go away. Romulus had planed this all along, it had nothing to do with today's meeting. Isabelle wondered what Romulus's other self did when he was not planing at being an ally in the alliance because clearly right now, Romulus was some sort of spy either for the people of Oris who Isabelle didn't trust one bit, either for himself or his father and Isabelle didn't know if that was any better. Still she stood her back against the passenger's door and waited for Romulus to appear.

Mike had said that Romulus wasn't who he seemed to be. Interesting! Her mother had said that she was acting for her own good but that was what she always said and Malik thought she was stupid for not doing blindly and believing everything their mother said.

Thursday Fiction 410: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

She fold the sphere of metal that had leak out of her body the night before in a towel. She needed answered about it. She just hoped it wouldn't give away her location. It had been really bright when it first went out of her arm but now it was pretty much dark and blacken as if it had to be feeding on her to be active. It didn't have his liquid consistency either, it was just hard. Isabelle was curious to know what it was. One thing was for certain, it came from a technology not from this world, something from a place much more advanced.

She put on her shoes and didn't bother to do the shoes laces, with her hand she couldn't manage to pull on the strings. She grabbed more gauze and her disinfectant bottle in the bathroom. She was definitely going to need that and her tooth brush. She looked around trying to figure out what she could have been missing but she didn't see anything or more accurately she saw too many things that she was going to miss. Who knew what her mother would do with her stuff when she discovered she was gone?

Thursday Fiction 409: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“But..”

“Go now, they will me coming soon.”

He walked to the door through which he had entered and closed it behind him. She heard him laugh a few second later.

“Yeah, this place is a maze, no matter how many times I have been here I can't seem to remember where the toilets are.” He laughed again.

Isabelle stood up and walked to the door. She opened it slightly and peeked outside. Romulus was talking with the cook and walking away from her. She stepped outside and hurried to her room. She had already partially packed. It was part of the plan, she had thought of going away during the night but if Romulus was giving her a ride, she had better take it. She didn't know yet if she trusted him but he had put himself in some sort of danger last night for her. Even if her mother couldn't go to Oris, she could have asked someone else to go instead of her and find her. Then he was putting his double in this universe in danger too, if his double were to disappear, there was no way for Romulus to ever come back to Hamelin. He needed a pretty serious reason to help her get away from here.

Thursday Fiction 408: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

All she could see was that she was doing her best, that all the universes she had visited out of the alliance didn't kill her like they said they would, that her mother was monitoring her but not her little brother, that uncle Henry wasn't here anymore to help her and that her mother never said she didn't kill him.

Was not forgiving her for telling her suspicions out loud like denying that she actually did it? Isabelle wasn't sure. She needed to meet the impostor.

Romulus entered the room. Check the corridor twice and closed the door carefully behind him. He was acting suspicious.

“Is the meeting already...” Isabelle started.

Romulus placed a finger on his mouth telling her to stay quiet. He walked straight to her.

“Meet me at my car in twenty minutes, it's in the street near the side of the forest, I don't have time to explain, take some change of clothes, whatever you think is important. Hurry, there is no time,” he muttered in her ears.

Thursday Fiction 407: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“I told you I didn't want to be the heir, you want to know what your problem is? You never listen to anyone unless they tell you what you want to hear. No matter what we say to you, you never listen.”

“And you listen when I tell you to get out of my room maybe?” Isabelle asked.

“That's different, at least I know what is good for me,” Malik answered. “All you have to do is what mum's been telling you to. Was it so hard not to slip for just a day? I have been off radar for months. She never catches me when I slip anymore because it's so rare. I need more time to create my own alliance. I don't want that bunch of old guys watching over my every moves. Stop being an idiot and be the heir, because in the end you are the only one who wants to. I will create my own dynasty.”

Isabelle bit in a banana piece and Malik walked out. Was it real? Was is what it was, her acting like an idiot and not listening? She had listen but whatever Malik or her mother said never matched what she felt, never match what she perceived reality to be. It was driving her insane. It was as if she couldn't rely on herself to see the truth.

Thursday Fiction 406: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

It was time to start eating left handed and that was another story. For once, Isabelle wasn't annoyed by the cook telling her to eat, though, she would have eaten anything and more if she wasn't so slow at it. She tried to hold her knife in her right hand and that was fine until she had to apply any pressure with it to cut her ham or butter her toasts. She revolved herself to pick at strawberries with her fork. At least the left hand wasn't too bad at that. She should have asked Nanurah to put those things on her left wrist but of course she hadn't though of that in time.

“Is there something wrong?” Malik was back again.

“How was the spying?” Isabelle said avoiding his question. She went through double effort to butter a toast with her left hand as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

“Boring, they are still at it. I think Romulus really has a crush on you though,” Malik said, “but seriously I never liked the guy.”

“Is it because he wants me as the heir as it should be and not you?”

Thursday Fiction 405: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“Please,” she said with a pitiful voice, “I'm really, really sick.” and she fainted a cough just for emphasis.

Malik slowly backed away, reached the door of her room and ran for it in the corridor. Isabelle wanted to laugh, maybe she did have some of her mother's manipulation skills after all.

There was a little bit of blood on the gauze around her wrist and her hand felt like double of what it was supposed to be. It was also all sore. That was going to be a problem if she needed to do anything with it. Including having dinner with the alliance. It was rare for them to have a second meeting two days in a row. Her mother probably called them as an emergency when she discovered her last night.

It was bad but Isabelle decided to let Romulus take care of it. After all, it was mostly his fault for calling her to an unregistered universe. One with magic, Isabelle's head was spinning at the thought. If magic existed even somewhere very remote, almost everything was possible. An infinite multiverse and million of millions of millions of possibilities but still only one she could live in, unless she figured out how to get out of here. She needed to find the imposter, either in this universe or in the next.

She cleaned her wounds, changed her gauze and aid-bands and dressed in something dark and tight against her arms. If she started bleeding again, she would be able to escape before anyone could see it. At least her hand didn't look as bad as it really felt.

Thursday Fiction 404: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“Could you stop acting like a kid? I didn't go anywhere. Mum woke me up during a dream and then I had a headache and a bleeding nose. I think I'm sick and that might be contagious, you want to see if I have a fever?”

Malik stood away.

“You're not funny,” he said looking annoyed wondering if he should stay near her or not.

“I'm not trying to be, I feel faint, really, I lost a lot of blood. Be an angel and carry my clothes to the washing machine,” Isabelle said.

Malik looked toward the bathroom Isabelle was pointing at with her left hand.

“No, thanks, I'll go spying on the alliance alone, maybe they'll let me be heir instead of you for real this time.”

He smirked as if that was already granted. Isabelle still had one trip to make before her mother decide to do what ever she planned to her but she wouldn't really count on it. She needed to act fast if she wanted to stay her whole self and not finish like uncle Henry. She put it on her list that she needed to figure out what really happened to him too. There had to be a universe where he was alive and one where he had had the same disease and survived.

Thursday Fiction 403: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

She opened her eyes trying to make sure her arms were still under the blanket. They were at least she didn't have to explain the gauze on her wrist to her younger brother, that was a plus.

“What are you still doing in bed? We are going to be late for school!”

Isabelle gave him a dead look.

“There is no school, that's what holidays are for, now just let me sleep,” she said turning back to her pillow.

“Damn!”

“Even half awake I know what day it is, just get the hell out of here before I make sure you can't move anymore,” she said.

“I'm not afraid of you, sis, they are having a new submit, just for you right now.”

“Malik, I don't care about whatever you say whether it's true or not, just get out of my room.”

“You went to a forbidden universe last night, one where mum couldn't even find you. What happened? Tell me! I want to know,” Malik said jumping on the bed.

Thursday Fiction 402: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

She was tired but she couldn't leave the bathroom in a mess, if someone was to see all that blood, they would sure know what she had done. At least that's what her mind told her. She had to hide that this part of the plan went fine until she was to get to the second part: Meeting with the impostor.

She threw the toilet paper covered in blood in the toilet. At least her nose had stopped bleeding in the process so there was no feeding the mess anymore. Then cleaned the sink and the floor and the side of the bathtub with the towel. Her pajama trousers also had stains. She spread cleaning product on every stain and decided to put them in the washing machine the next day.

She gave herself a quick hot shower, she was feeling cold with exhaustion and worried about losing too much blood. The aid-band on her wrist already felt funny as if she was still bleeding and taking a shower without wetting it was some kind of impossible mission.

She didn't have trouble to fall asleep that night.

“Isabelle, wake up, wake up,” Malik was shaking her.

Thursday Fiction 401: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Whatever this was, it was as dangerous outside than inside. It turned on itself and Isabelle was grateful for Nanurah to have gotten everything to her wrist. If she had ever had that ball out with bits in her head, who knew what sort of damage they would have done coming out of her brain.

The towel was damped with blood when she finally stop looking at the ball and placed it on the side of the sink. She needed to stop the blood now, everything was out. She started with the cut which was the most important. She disinfected with the rest of synthol she found in a drawer, it was sticky but it did the trick and put a large aid-band on it, and some gauze. It was still painful. She tried to move her fingers but the small motion throw electricity all the way to her shoulder.

She had to remind herself it wasn't a deep cut and that it would be back to normal in a few days not to panic. She then took of her pajama top and took care of the little holes the metal had left in the rest of her arm. They were very small and round but still bleeding or leaking some sort of yellow water. She put small aid-band on all of them too, just for the show. She had no one to show them too, of course, but looking at herself in the mirror she did not only look scary anymore, she looked like a warrior.

Thursday Fiction 400: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

She looked at her wrist and at the blade wondering how Romulus had planed to help her get rid of whatever was in there. Had he also expected her to open her skin after Clara had looked for those things. They seemed to be moving, trying to go up her arm. It was now or never.

Isabelle took a deep breath and cut, just above the bump. It was painful. She concentrated mostly of not hitting a blood vessel but the blood started to flow out and she couldn't figure out if she had hit one or not. She let the blade fall on the floor and tried to stop the blood, pressing on the cut with her towel. That's when she saw it. The bump was getting smaller and the blood was mixed with another liquid, not red this one, it was grey and glittering.

“My robot blood,” Isabelle thought.

It looked like it was made of metal, she wondered what sort of damage metal could cause in her body. Maybe if her behavior was as erratic as her mother described it it wasn't her fault and actually caused by all the thing they had put in her. It flowed with the blood on her towel and then turned into a ball. Little pieces kept on coming toward it, some from higher in her arms through her skin away from the cut making small perforation wounds.

Thursday Fiction 399: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

She pushed the mess in a corner, just in case someone was to come back knocking at the door. Then she took the blade between her thumb and index finger. It was small and sharp. She look at herself in the mirror. She looked frightening and frightened. She didn't even know if she was scared of herself or only of her reflection. The bump was on her wrist.

That was the place where all those teenagers trying to kill themselves cut. That was insane. Just thinking about it. If things turned wrong, they would all think it was a suicide attempt. Then they would have a good reason to make her brother the heir and to stop her from slipping to other universes. And who would believe her. People out of the alliance would think she was crazy for even thinking that she could travel to parallel universes and people in the alliance, most of them couldn't be trusted, especially if she was suspected of trying to kill herself. She sat on the side of the bath tube, a towel on her lap, slightly humidified on the up side.

“I can do this,” she said with a nasal voice. “This is the first step of the plan.”

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

In the end, she was the one punished because it was taking her too long to say the damn words. It was hard when she was little and it grew even worse as she grew up. He had it easy saying sorry and she was getting more and more revengeful with the unfairness. Her mother was never sorry and rarely forgiving. And here it was, she acknowledged it. Isabelle wouldn't be forgiven for saying that uncle Henry's death was unnatural. Then so be it. That was one more thing she had to learn to deal with. Like everything she had learned in this family, it was all a lie.

She locked the door once again and change the toilet paper in her right nostril. There was blood all over the sink but she didn't want to take care of it now. Her wrist needed attention. If she didn't take care of it now, her resolve would fade. This was going to hurt and Isabelle wasn't really good with pain. She took her razor and pulled out the blade. It was more difficult than in the movies with those four blade super close shaving things they built these days but she was happy to get it out without cutting herself.

Thursday Fiction 397: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

This was a huge one. Her family was all about forgiveness, so much, that it made Isabelle sick just to think of it. When she was little whenever her or her brother did something wrong, they had to say they were sorry, no matter if they were sorry or not. Of course many many times over Isabelle suspected that Malik wasn't sorry even a tiny bit, to tell the truth there were many times when she wasn't sorry for beating him up either. But then the other one had to say that they forgave and that was the hard part. Isabelle never thought or felt like she could forgive straight away. Imagine he just broke her favorite toy, after she told him many times to leave it alone. He could even have done it on purpose for all she knew and she had no time to grieve. She had to say that she forgave him.

“He said he is sorry, you have to forgive him,” her mother would say releasing her brother and still holding her by the arm like the criminal child.

Because that's what she was. It didn't matter what her brother had done, if he said he was sorry he wouldn't be punished. But she would be punished for not forgiving him and there was not an ounce of apology on his face and she still had to forgive him or she was the bad guy. It was hard. It was hard just to say it because saying it without feeling it was lying and lying was also forbidden. She was forced to feel forgiveness when she just wanted to punch him, or she would be a liar.
