Teaching myself piano: Day 14 (with video)

In today's video I play a bit more than usual because I know a lot of you are a bit stressed out because of the US presidential elections so I wanted to make something more relaxing for you.
I start with my practice of Hana's eyes and they I play Fur Elise and Brother fully. I hope you'll enjoy.

Teaching myself piano: Day 13 (with video)

So here is a bit of today's piano practice. I decided to concentrate on Hana's eyes today so this video is a bit shorter than usual. I'll see if I'll get a longer one tomorrow.
I didn't go further in the piece, I mostly practiced what I already know. I can feel that I'm getting better so that's a lot of fun.

Check out the previous days of practice on my piano playlist.

Teaching myself piano: Day 12 (with video)

So I had to reorganise my schedule because with the writing the piano didn't fit in any more and I managed to practice today, yeah!!
I'm actually quite happy with the progress I'm making with Hana's eyes. I know that I'm playing like super slowly but it can only get better from there. I managed to get to the end of page two and a little bit of page 3 so hopefully tomorrow I can start page three full on and play a bit faster.
There are a lot of tricky parts especially with the faster notes and the two hand playing partially in parallel and then different for three notes and then parallel again but I'll definitely get used to it.
At the end of the practice I just lashed out on Fur Elise.

Teaching myself piano: Day 11

So back at playing the piano after the kikipop festival and Halloween.
A lot of one hand practice today because I'm not yet confident enough to play Hana's eyes with both hands.
I'm still having fun though and repeating pieces until I feel the shift toward something that seems to work.
Also I played the rest but on this video there is only Fur Elise.

Teaching myself piano: Day 9 (with video)

Today I started on Mio Nemico which is the first song at the beginning of the video. It's from the Fantagiaro TV series. It's a really beautiful song by Amedeo Mingi. Maybe I'll sing it some day.
I also looked at Hana's Eyes from Tonci Huljic which is not as difficult as I thought it would be but I'm still probably way over my head trying that. Still I would love to be able to play it nicely.

Teaching myself Piano: Day 8

I wanted to play Fur Elise in full for you today but of course my camera's time of shooting is 5 minutes 34 so it stopped before I could finish.
I'll have to find a different way to record things fully.
I played Brother and Comptine d'un autre été too.

Teaching myself Piano: Day 7 (with video)

Today's practice was great.
One of my viewer told me to use a cushion because my arms weren't in the right position compared to the keyboard. I did and as a result I didn't get a painful wrist at the end of the practice.

Teaching myself piano: Day 5

Today, I worked on the difficult passages playing them several times in a row to get used to them. I'm not sure how beneficial that was. I guess we'll see when I play the full song with focus entirely once again.
I focused more on Fur Elise and Brother so I didn't play Comptine d'un autre été. My wrist is still sore. I don't really know what I'm doing wrong or if it's piano related or not.

Teaching myself piano: Day 4 (with video)

It's day four of me teaching myself the piano and today I started "Fur Elise" on top of "Brother" and "Comptine d'un autre été". It worked a lot better that expected seeing that I haven't played it for years.

I really enjoyed playing today. I think I'm gaining a bit of confidence.

Teaching myself piano: Day 3 (with video)

This is day three. Today I managed to play all of brother from beginning to end. Of course I'm still making mistake and hesitate at some parts but that's still better than yesterday.

I'm also up to speed on Comptine d'un autre été, hopefully my wrist is going to get used to it soon so far I can't play more than half of it before it starts being painful and then the rest is only bit practice. I put the hardest part in today's video.

Teaching myself piano: Day 2 (with video)

Welcome to a new day of music practice.
Today I'm practicing Brother and Comptine d'un autre été. I checked online and adjusted the left hand for brother accordingly, it sounds a lot better now. It's way easier to play when what I have in my head and what is written on the scores actually match.
For Comptine d'un autre été I need some more practice to be able to reach the same speed with both hands and that should do the trick.

Teaching myself the piano: Day 1 (with video)

Finally, this is my first practice for this daily log. I worked on Brother which is from an episode of "Criminal Minds" untitled "Coda" and Comptine d'un autre été from the movie "Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" which is called "Amelie" in English I think.
I could play "Comptine d'un autre été" before but I forgot. It will probably come back quickly as it always does. It just required a bit of practice and it's a bit painful on my left hand so that might take a few days.
I'm not really yet comfortable playing "Brother" for some reason I think some of the notes sound weird. I wonder if the score I have are the same than the one from the video I watched on youtube. I'll have to see if I can check that out and fix what I need to have it play the same way in my memory and on the piano.

Teaching myself Piano (Give it 100): day 0 Introduction (33 days laps video)

I decided to start learning piano again and to add day log to this channel while doing so. I used to be on a website called "Give it 100" where I put videos on a daily basis to show my progress but that website closed and I haven't been practising regularly since.
I played the piano as a child but stopped when I was 10 and have always wanted to go back to it and be better.
In this video, I show you a 33 day laps of my piano playing from the Give it 100 website. You can see my progress slowly.
My skills sort of deteriorated since so I will start again with an easier song. the song you see me practice at the end is way above my skill level.

100 days of music: Introduction

Have you ever had one of those things that are killing you? Not because you are doing them, but because you are not? When it becomes more painful not to do them than to actually start doing them?
Well I think I have his relationship with music. I always wanted to be good at music. I took two years of piano when I was a kid, then gave up, then when I moved to Paris and I had access to a piano, I would try to play. Then when I moved to Japan and there was a piano in my building, I would play too. When I was in Ireland, I even bought a violin to teach myself how to play.
But the truth is, it's hard and every time I start, I end up giving up because I tell myself that I can't find the time to learn music properly and that I can't pull up the daily hours of playing I really need to get good and well in the end I just still can't play because I'm just not practicing enough.
Anyway, today this is going to stop. I discovered this website called giveit100.com some months ago and I tried to gather friends there to work on projects together, to motivate each other but once again, it seemed that I was the only one motivated and I didn't start.
Well, this time I'm not asking anyone to get in the adventure with me, I'm going to play, violin and piano, every day, for 100 days.
At first I decided to play only violin for 100 days and to do piano later but in the end I know that if I don't do it it will end up killing me. And later generally equals never so it has to be today.
Here are the videos I uploaded for day 1. If you want you can follow me on giveit100.com or I'll upload a weekly video so that you can see my progresses on this blog anyway. It's only 10 seconds long because the goal is not to make a video, the goal is to teach myself some piano and violin playing.

Here is the first video for violin, it's long enough for you to see my initial level on a piece I have rehearsed quite a bit even though I haven't played it for a long time.

And here is the first video for the piano, in the same way, it's a piece I used to be familiar with.
