WeWriWar 113: Rainbow Catcher

Welcome to a new excerpt of Rainbow Catcher for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday

Then Demon and Fairy is also available for free for reviewers through Shut Up & Read. You can have a look at it here if you want.

Now let's go back to our story.
Summary of previous episodes: Clarissa is coughing and wanted to watch Everett Cooper on TV but Jason refused, she is due to get her rainbow the next day but she seems scared, to make her feel better Jason leave the TV on. Clarissa tried to explain about rainbows, she is a big fan of Everett Cooper but Jason is not too sure about it. Clarissa complained about her dialophone but Jason needs to go to work. Before completely leaving he is thinking about getting her her rainbow.
We start just where we left off last week.

In between them, a shelf with a few books. Jason slid himself to sit on the left, his knees touching the seat on the other side of the table. For a second, he wondered how the man with the grey cloak fitted in. He took the third book from his side and opened it to page 217. The note served as a bookmark, just as expected.
"We have a contact for you. Monday, same place, same time, put a red rose on your table."
There was one more paper, an advertisement, folded in 4.

Answer to last week's comments:

I wanted to give this part some sort of dark and mysterious vibs. I'm glad you are enjoying the visual.

  1. Yep, I get a mysterious vibe. :)

Not sure if this line is right or not. Does the man have a clock or a cloak? I think it should be 'fit in' not 'fitted in' or maybe you meant ...fit it in. Not sure.

For a second, he wondered how the man with the grey clock fitted in.

  3. Hmm. I wonder what's so special about page 217. It's the product of 7 x 31, but I doubt that's why it's important...

  5. Definitely adding mystery! I have the feeling he's engaged in dangerous stuff now, chasing the rainbow. Great snippet!

  6. Hmm, wonder what the advertisement has to do with it.:-)

Your opening sentence doesn't feel right, Linda. Maybe it lacks a verb? I think it might sound better like this: A shelf with a few books on it stood between them.

    Good excerpt this week! :-)

  7. I never knew getting a rainbow would be so complicated.

  8. I get this feeling that the advertisement will mean something later. At the moment though... I wonder if the guy with the gray cloak is even human!

  10. Love the red rose bit, I feel like that's going to mean something later on. But how did he even know what he wanted on the Black Market without him even mentioning the rainbow?
