WeWriWar 108: Rainbow Catcher

Welcome to a new excerpt of Rainbow Catcher for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday
I think I'll give myself two months more to get Rainbow Catcher out. I'm moving next week end and I have research proposal to write to find a job. Anybody want at atomic physicist? I can solve the Schrodinger equation, I'll even do it for molecules if you ask nicely.
Demon and Fairy is available for free for reviewers through Shut Up & Read. You can have a look at it here if you want.

Now let's go back to our story.
Summary of previous episodes: Clarissa is coughing and wanted to watch Everett Cooper on TV but Jason refused, she is due to get her rainbow the next day but she seems scared, to make her feel better Jason leave the TV on. Clarissa tried to explain about rainbows, she is a big fan of Everett Cooper but Jason is not too sure about it. Last week Clarissa was complaining about her broken dialophone.
We start just where we left off last week.

“That’s because you slept on it again, I’ll repair it tomorrow, now it’s time to sleep,” Jason said, placing the dialophone back on the night table, wondering why Clarissa would always sleep with it without calling him.
Jason walked out of the room, turned off the light and closed the door gently before putting his back against it and taking a deep breath. It was more and more difficult for him to part with Clarissa. Every day that passed could be the last. He wondered what he would do if she was to die before he came back.

He had had a long discussion with the doctor about the rainbow and the surgery. He didn’t want to alarm Clarissa so he never told her what came out of it, but she was getting worse, more quickly than ever. She needed the rainbow and fast.

Answer to last week comments:

There really is a problem with Clarissa. I'm glad you're not all crying yet though.

  2. Okay, that dialophone definitely has a backstory to it. Just what did the doctor say though that has him so worried?? I'm curious now.

  3. I wonder, too, if she talks to someone else. I think you're doing a stellar job of writing his emotions. :-)

Good luck on the job hunt and your written proposal!

  5. Great job on capturing his emotions. And I'm curious to know why she sleeps with the dialophone, too. Waiting for a call about a rainbow, maybe?

  6. Hmm, and I wonder how much she knows of what Jason's not telling her?

  7. Oh, dear, that's a huge worry for him. Poor guy.

  8. Clarissa must be using the dialophone for something. But what... And so brutal for Jason. He's in a painful place. If anything, I think he's suffering more than Clarissa.

  9. So curious what the doctor told Jason about Clarissa. I wonder WHO the dialophone is connecting her with (this world?). Great job with showing Jason's desperation.
