Thursday Taster 4: Rainbow Catcher

Hello and Welcome to Thursday Taster again. Talented writers from all over the blogosphere gather together to give readers tasty parts of their work in progress, you can find the list here

As I'm currently working on the edits of Rainbow Catcher, that's the project I will be presenting until it is ready. Thank you for all the comments on last week's taster, I really appreciate. Today, we continue right where we left off last week. As it's under editing, if you see anything funny, hit me on the head in the comments.

No names,” the man answered with a low voice looking around like fearing to be heard.
He was breathing like a beef and smelling like it too. Jason was finding it highly disgusting and was in a hurry to go away.
What kind of merchandise are you looking for?” the man said sitting down. His weight, making the bench, bent under him with a cracking sound. He put his attaché-case loudly on the table, it also seemed very wet.
Jason started to wonder if the man hadn’t been trying to escape someone else before meeting him. The entire situation was more awkward than expected. He had been waiting for someone professional who would do the job quickly and properly.
How do you catch rainbow?” he asked.
I don’t catch them, I sell them, it’s what I’m good at,” the fat man answered. “Now what do you want? I don’t have all day.”
A purple rainbow,” Jason answered.
You’re pretty greedy,” the man answered smirking, looking at Jason with a calculator in his eyes like trying to figure out how much money he could extract from the kid.
It’s not for me,” Jason answered.
I don’t need to know that. Will you have the money?” the man said.
Yes,” Jason answered.
Thirty four million swans is a lot of money,” the fat man said.
The advertisement said, fifteen million,” Jason answered.
It’s a purple rainbow we are talking about,” the fat man said.
The advertisement said fifteen million, if I wanted one for thirty four million I would have called Everett Cooper,” Jason answered.
The fat man started to shake. It took some time for Jason to realize that it was his way of laughing.
Do you think I need you to buy it when there are so many other potential buyers?” the fat man finally said.
The advertisement said fifteen million,” Jason repeated, trying to look in the man’s porcine eyes. He knew that if he could hold it just long enough he would win.
Well, advertisements say many things, you don’t have to read them so carefully,” the fat man said. He was starting to feel like this kid was not as easy to deal with as he would have imagined.
But I read it carefully enough, so will keep up with it,” Jason answered.
The fat man pretended to want to go out, but his weight was too heavy for him and he fell back breathing like a beef on the bench. Decidedly this wasn’t a good day. He soaked his forehead again with his wet handkerchief that had left a stain on the bar’s wooden table and shook again.
Alright, where do I deliver?” he said.
Room 42, children section, Polysky general rainbow hospital,” Jason said.
The fat man made a huge effort to go up and took the rose from the table.
I’ll call you again when I have the merchandise,” he said, and walked to the door slowly.
And last night he had called again. Jason wondered how he had managed to get a purple rainbow so rapidly.

  1. Ah! I am sooooooo you changed your layout and I can find the comment section. Thank you. Now, your frist two sentences use 'like' several times. You might want to reconsider. I love the line "...beef on a bench." Fabulous. Very image provoking. And I am so curious how he found a purple rainbow, so rare and valuable, in just a few hours. Love this story. xo
